Objective II

Promote renewable energy in connection with biodiversity conservation

II.3. Initiatives for adopting technology based on renewable energy in communities

RAPORT FOR THE „Green Caravan" ACTIVITY

II.3.1. Preparing the „Green Caravan" activity

A - the project team made work vizits to the City Halls of the target communities (Dorna Candreni, Panaci, Saru Dornei, Vatra Dornei). Thusm the project was presented in terms of its objectives and expected outcomes. Emphasis was placed on the Objective Promoting renewable energy for biodiversity conservation. These actions will take place in the target communities. These activities are:

    - Carry out the Green Caravans - mobile stands traveling in different points in the target localities presenting demonstrations on how to use renewable energy (solar panels, small wind mills, etc.).
Consultancy offered to interested people on the project issues.
    - Work-shop "Is it for me?
Theory presentation followed by analyzes of the energetic potential carried out on field at the solicitation of the interested people
Practical and theoretical training course on renewable energy - building small wind turbines, etc
    - Place the wind turbines built during the training course in the project area, consequent measures of the energy produced by the turbines and informing communities about the obtained results

     Example of good practice

In this context, all City Halls addressed to from the project targeted communities, based on a written agreement, have agreed to create a framework for the unfolding actions on renewable energy initiated by the project.

B - a laboratory was set up to be used as place of construction for the demo equipments of the „Green Caravan": a hot air trap for solar use and a wind turbine
C - demo kits have been aquired –
photovoltaic solar pannels;
All these devices have offered those who participated in these events factual information about renewable energy, but also the fact that each can build one using its own resources or equipment.
D - printed materials were also used to inform the people:
POSTERS offered the citizens information about the upcoming event in their community – the location and date; FLYERS have been distributed among people during the caravan. The flyers ofer information on the project unfolding in their community, elementary notions about renewable energy, but also the posibility to build their own system; THE BANNER that was placed at the event, inviting people to the Information Point «Green Point».

II.3.2. „GREEN CARAVAN" in progress

One of the objectives the project proposed it is that to familiarize communities with the "renewable energy" field and to stimulate them to use clean, "smart" and even more effective energy technologies, through the information campaign "Green Caravan" and the activities of team of specialists of the "Green Point",.
Also, the „Green Caravan" came with concrete examples and with the challange that these systems can be built by them.

     - The communities and the period of the „Green Caravan" campaign:

Panaci - 8 noiembrie 2009
Neagra Sarului - 12 noiembrie 2009
Dorna Candrenilor - 19 noiembrie 2009
Vatra Dornei - 26 noiembrie 2009
Poiana Stampei - 27 noiembrie 2009

At the "Green Point" during the "Caravan Green", those interested in green energy could see the exhibition with demonstration kits (solar sensor, wind turbine and photovoltaic panels) and how they work. They also received information from the "Green Point" team (specialists in this field), about how they work, about materials used in their manufacture as well as about the courses on "Can I build" to be organized within the project.

Information on how to build a system with its own power was the point of interest of many present. This interest can be linked with small or modest amounts of money that most people have available to invest. Those tempted by the idea of building their own systems, subscribed for the "theoretical and practical training courses for building renewable energy systems".

These courses will be organized by the „Green Point" team in all the communities in Tara Dornelor, and will last 7 days. The participants will learn to build systems that use renewable energies for their own houses.

From all those present at the „Green Caravan" we have observed that over 80% of them already know about the efficiency of  "renewable energy", the long term effect on the environment, and only around 18% admit to not knowing anithing about this domain.
